What Would You Need to Start a Flag Football League in Your Stake?

Checklist for Setting up a Flag Football League in Your Stake

  • Stake and Ward Leadership willing to support church sports programs with fiscal and personnel resources
  • Stake Sports Leadership willing to engage Young Men about setting up a league and gauging interest/fielding teams within the Stake. We’d be willing to guess there’s a lot of interest!
  • Referees (called and set apart by the Stake is preferable)
  • A copy of the Coordinating Council Flag Football Rules pdf- available from the Coordinating Council
  • A copy of the team roster and eligibility form pdf- available from the Coordinating Council
  • A relatively flat grass field that is at least 80 yards long and 30 yards wide
  • Two dozen sets of well-made flags per team. The Triple Threat brand flags on Amazon are a good choice, as they have the flags sewn into the belt
  • A well-made non-plastic football, high school sized or youth sized
  • An egg timer or stopwatch to keep track of the game time
  • 6+ Cones to mark to the 20, 40, 20 yard lines on each sideline and back of the end zone on each side of the field
  • 8 Cones or pylons (preferred) to mark the four corners of the 10-yard end zones on each side of the field
  • A two-yard long, very thick tied rope to separate offensive and defensive line of scrimmage. Has to be visible to the players, referees, sidelines
  • Air pump and needle for inflating the football
  • Hand towel for a wet football if needed
  • Referee jerseys, whistles, penalty flags
  • A flip scoreboard to keep track of the score, ideally the same colors as your flag belts
  • A way to measure out the field dimensions (measuring tape) and spray paint/paint striper so you don’t have to re-measure the field each week
  • First aid kit
  • Container(s) to hold all the equipment
